Architectural design, like carpentry, is fundamentally an art, not a science.
In the field details are continually shaped by the human hand in response to the actual, real, imperfect world. I think of it as sculptural, really.
So while I always aim for utter precision and perfection, I understand that these are guiding aspirations rather than realities. In practice, my goal is to fashion something that feels harmonious and right. Hand drawing then, when the project allows, gets me started down this more sensuous, responsive, natural path from the get go.
